Hamburgers
Few recipes are more typical of present-day America than hamburgers, which take their name from the German city of Hamburg. Yet by no means all English-speaking people know what a real hamburger should look and taste like. For a start, anything that contains ham is not a hamburger nor are mixtures made from pre-cooked mince or general purpose mince.
Serving Hamburgers
Serve the hamburgers in warm sesame seed buns. If you cannot find this particular type of bun, any variety of soft roll will do. Crusty rolls are not suitable. The rolls can be split and warmed in the oven if you are cooking for a large number, or lightly toasted under the grill.
Hamburgers are particularly succulent and tasty when served with a topping or with a selection of relishes. The topping is sandwiched between the hamburger and one half of the bun, while relishes can be served separately and people can help themselves.
